    SERVERS AND LAG!

    Ok people, it's time to get real down serious and realistic.

    All our servers are now hosted for free by Unreal, which includes both TF2 servers and CSS server. The rotation server is shutting down at the end of this month. Which leaves us with the dust2 server on INS which will be turned into a rotation server.

    Here's the problem. Unreal's network cannot handle more than 40 players online at once. Currently while posting this, both our tf2 servers combined have an average of 36/64 players and css has 6/32 that's a total of 42/96 players.

    The servers are hitting pings at 800. At this little amount of players, that is a SERIOUS ISSUE.

    Our community is growing at a rapid pace, but apparently the dedication isn't keeping up with the standards.
    We hate to ask for donations, but when we need it, we need it otherwise servers will be shut down. That is why our rotation server is shutting down. We're not paying for it anymore, now all our servers are hosted for free.

    Because we are getting so big, we need to start renting more serious software to host the servers we need to host. This means dedicated boxes which START at $150 bucks per month. Not to forget to mention an average of $20 additional expenses for site and stats and miscellaneous stuff.

    If donation conditions do not improve in the next 2-3 weeks. ALL servers will be reduced to 16 slots.
    We're a free community, but we float on donations. No money = no software= no servers.

    No one has donated in the past 2 months. We have lived off of ads which is a risky business.
    If you can't donate, get recruits or click ads ONCE a day.

    No need to respond to this thread that "I will recruit", just do it.

    Well here is the status of the network and servers as of last night:

    Here is the Router and the Server cluster they reside on: (note from 12-2am we were performing a backup)

    And yes we are planning on upgrading from our open source linksys router.

    the only thing I can think of is that the open source linksys router we have cant handle that many connections at once. I am creating a larger router now. Hopefully I have time to create it sooner than later.

    yea servers have been getting more populated and bandwidth starts peaking at about +/-30 users or so
    That new router Unreal's working on sounds like it should fix the problem, can't wait!

    on a side note, Im in the process of converting the INS dust2 server to our new Roation server for the changes to taking effect tomorrow


    EDIT: On a side note...
    we should discuss a temporary fix for the meantime.
    Our 2 TF2 servers seem to be the most popular, followed by css, then ins
    There are currently 28 players between the two TF2 servers
    2 on css
    0 on ins
    this is where the servers start to lag ~30 users

    I would suggest doing one of two things:
    1) shut down one of the TF2 servers keeping maxplayers at 32
    2) cap maxplayers at 16 on both TF2 servers

    as it is, with 4 - 32 player servers, there's no way we can have 128 players connected to our servers at the same time
    maxplayers total for all servers should be capped at 32
    but an 8 player server isn't very attractive to the average gamer...
    for games with bots, (TF2 and CSS) I could make a plugin to cap real players at a certain number for the meantime
    but we'd have to decide on those numbers.

    Well I just want to say that i play yesterday on our CSS. guys who was there say that this is good server cuz there is mix of bots and player but our server from time to time lagg and lagg a lot. this have to be fix it if we want to make our CSS server more popular.

    Ok, so I just had a look at the current roster...
    both our TF2 servers have been pretty popular lately, however...
    we only have 2 people in the TF2 division and they're both listed as inactive!
    busy as the servers may be, they're not bringing in new recruits.
    Also, they're using up all our bandwidth, lagging the other servers.

    The old INS rotation is still up for some reason and seems to be decently popular at times
    when I was working on my plugin to add new special weapons to INS, I came across a weird problem...
    the tripmines worked fine on my test server at home, however they would crash our linux servers!
    So I came to the conclusion that the linux build of the server is bugged,
    and there's rumors of there not being any more updates to the game for some time,
    so Im thinking moving our old INS dust2 server to a windows OS may solve alot of those problems we had
    (especially that NetMessage overflow crap)

    I've just emailed Unreal today, I had a few things come up the last couple days that I needed to address promptly.
    Also, I think we should change the INS servers hostname to include the tag "Beta3?" or something of that nature.

    Ok, Deadbwoy you can change Insurgency to a window's OS, so this problem can be resolved. Also we probably need to leave name of server as is for now since steam hasn't came out with a beta 3 version as of yet. Let me know what u think. Thank's..
